Kirill Blair, No it is not true. The plug adapter only allows users from different regions (in this case, from US to UK) to use their electronics. It does not convert the voltage for you. US's voltage is 110V but UK's voltage is 240V. Be careful when you plug in a 110V into 240V plug, you will need a voltage converter or you will burn out your electronics!

If you item is both 110 volt and 220 volt, you dont need a voltage converter or voltage transformer. A universal plug adapter that changes the American plug which is flat pin in to a British or UK which is a square pin, either grounded or not. Hope this helps you select the right type of converter adapter.
